PROJECT DESCRIPTION

FPBH, Inc. provided GIS data creation for a zoning layer used in ThinkGIS. This zoning layer covered the majority of the county and was created from paper maps. These paper maps and notes were input into the GIS by individual parcel. All obtained notes of zoning history were recorded and attached to each parcel.

This zoning layer was set up to be user friendly and reduce time to record a zoning change. If a user wants to change zoning on a parcel they simply have to click on the parcel, pick the new zoning category from the drop down box, and input any zoning history related to the property.

Also provided were presentation zoning maps, including two 5 ft. tall wall maps with a dry-erase surface to mark zoning changes. Also provided, were color as well as black and white handout maps.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Started in 2004, FPBH coordinated with owners, and prepared a plan and preliminary estimates for Grant Submission that was successfully funded by the State of Indiana CFF program. After the grant was award by the Lieutenant Governor, FPBH, along with the help of the Westerly Group, put together a plan to repair, paint, and add awnings to selected buildings in the historic downtown district. Each building in the district was given the opportunity to join this grant assisted project and 19 buildings participated.

FPBH Inc., designed and coordinated the replacement of a street sidewalk along the length of a block. There were also brick pavers installed in the four corners of the sidewalk ramps located at a street intersection. This included improved ramps and crosswalks for improved safety. The parking lot entrance (Above), was also designed by FPBH along with the addition of the new streetscapes throughout downtown. These streetscapes included new benches, planters, trash receptacles, tree planting, tree removal, tree grates, and streetlight globe replacement.

Clifty Falls State Park

New Parking Area completed with a 1930’s flair for the North Parking Area. Existing roadway converted to walking/bike trail. ADA accessibility for sidewalks into Clifty Shelter. Nature Center walkway and Craigmont Shelter improvements.

This project was designed to enhance the natural and historic nature of the site.

Four Plex Completed Project

FPBH, Inc. designed and managed four separate project contracts, to implement a major rehabilitation at the City Park and establish a sports complex atmosphere that connected other park features through a central walkway.

Prior to this project, the area enclosed four fields of varying dimensions that all backed up to one another, and contained severe drainage, safety, and access problems.

It took innovative design and geometrics, to provide four new fields that meet Little League specifications, and satisfy requirements for player and spectator safety and true accessibility. Working under extreme budget constraints, FPBH planned, budgeted and managed a Site Demolition and Preparation contract, a fencing contract an electrical and lighting contract, and a final paving and site improvement contract.

FPBH, Inc. provided updates and improvements to the Jennings County Zoning and Subdivision Control Ordinances to address new issues and fix unresolved issues. Several diagrams were added so that the reader can better understand the language (as shown on the left).

Cross references were added to each book to make related items easily found within each book, between each book, and between the related Indiana Codes. Three new zoning categories were added, including a Planned Unit Development zone, an Institutional zone, and Sexually Oriented Business zone. These zones included new setback requirements and guidelines.

Several new sections were added which includes new language and better organization of the original ordinance language. Some of these new sections include, required improvements, billboard regulation, sidewalks, and a compiled definition section.

ThinkGIS Showing Attributes for a Feature

FPBH, Inc. provided the GIS data collection and input for the utility layers including fire hydrants, water valves, water mains, sanitary manholes, sanitary gravity mains, force mains, lift stations, catch basins, curb inlets, & storm manholes. This information was provided to the City of North Vernon Municipal Utilities.

The data was collected using a handheld GPS that produces sub-meter accuracy results when post-processing is used. Using this gives quick and accurate data collection. Information about each feature can also be collected in the field using the handheld.

Once the data has been collected it is transferred to a GIS, in this case using ThinkGIS software which is what the city of North Vernon uses. Above is what a print looks like showing the spatial layer data. At the left are two ways of viewing the attribute information associated with each feature. A number of attributes were collected about each feature (This showing the manhole attributes).

Data that is collected can also be exported to shapefile for use in most all other GIS platforms.
